Broward Teachers to Take 2 Furlough Days

School board approves plan for Thanksgiving week furloughs

The school board of Broward County has approved a plan for teachers and district employees to take two furlough days during Thanksgiving week.

The schedule means students will be off the entire holiday week.

Under the existing calendar, schools were scheduled to be closed from Nov. 23 to Nov. 25. They'll now also be closed the Monday and Tuesday beforehand.

Broward County school officials approved the plan Wednesday. They say it will save the district nearly $11.2 million and help balance the budget.

While the schedule change may make students happy, it means working parents will have to find childcare for their sons and daughters.
