BSO Deputies Go Holiday Shopping With Local Students During ‘Shopping With The Sheriff' Event

The men and women of the Broward Sheriff’s Office who walk the blue line everyday walked shopping aisles with over 100 students for the annual 'Shop With the Sheriff' event Tuesday.

“They select the kids, they're all deserving kids, and they come to Wal-Mart,” said Juan Arias, Chairman of the Sheriff’s Foundation. “We give them $100 each and they buy for themselves and for their families.”

Students, from elementary to high school, are selected from schools in the public safety agency’s districts based on several criteria, including their conduct and financial need.

It's letting kids know and the future of Broward County know that we are all one team, and we're all together,” said BSO Sheriff Scott Israel. “We love these kids and they're just great kids.”

Students like fifth grader Janiya Duncan are taking advantage of day of shopping.

“I never been here before, especially with deputy Cooper, and it's fun,” said Duncan. “Because I also get to see new deputies and I will also have fun and shop.”
