BSO Investigating Human Remains Found in Pompano Beach

Officials from the Broward Sheriff’s Office are investigating a scene in Pompano Beach where human skeletal remains were found Friday morning.

Members of the Homicide Unit responded to an area near West Copans Road and Blount Road where the remains were found in a wooded area behind a FedEx.

Fort Lauderdale Police said the remains could be that of a woman missing from Fort Lauderdale sometine in December. The department asked BSO for help searching for the woman and the discovery was made Friday.

At this point, detectives are treated the case as a death investigation. They haven't said whether foul play was involved.

The medical examiner arrived around 2:30 p.m. and carried rakes and other tools in hand that could be used to dig up the remains.

The northbound lanes of Blount Road were blocked and being rerouted into the southbound lanes.

Police have not released the missing woman's identity. Detectives also would not confirm the identity or gender of the remains discovered.
