Burglary Suspect Escapes Custody in Weston

Authorities are searching for a burglary suspect who escaped custody in Weston late Thursday night.

Damian Alexander Fernandez, 21, was arrested on a burglary warrant and was taken to a district office, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Around 9 p.m., Fernandez got into a scuffle with deputies and managed to escape on foot into the Country Isles Community, officials said.

A perimeter was established and the Broward Sheriff's Office spent late Thursday and early Friday searching for Fernandez with helicopters and K-9 units. The search was terminated after several hours, the BSO said.

Fernandez is a known resident who lives in Weston and likely fled the area, the BSO said.

BSO officials described Fernandez as a 21-year-old white male, 5-foot-9, 150 pounds with long brown hair and several tattoos.

Officials said the man isn't considered armed or dangerous. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
