Badly Burned Teen Back at Home

Michael Brewer out of Miami hospital after second stay

The 15-year-old South Florida boy badly burned by classmates in October is back at home after his second stint at a Miami hospital.

Michael Brewer has been in and out of Jackson Memorial hospital since he was attacked by a group of teens in October in Deerfield Beach.

The 15-year-old had been released from the hospital just before the holidays, but was readmitted earlier this week after suffering from respiratory distress.

In an update to the Pray for Mikey Brewer Facebook page yesterday afternoon, mom Valerie Brewer said her son underwent surgery to repair airway blockage.

Doctros yesterday said it was likely Brewer would have to come back but his mother remained optimistic.

"The Doctors gave us a 50% chance that it would not come back," Brewer wrote. "So there is a small chance that he may need more surgery but we are all thinking positive thoughts and praying that we will not have to."

Doctors have said Brewer is facing a long and difficult road to recovery, with burns on over 65 percent of his body as a result of the heartless attack.

Three of the teens involved in the attack have been charged with second-degree attempted murder in the attack.
