Canal Search for Missing Woman Called Off

While the search continues for Lynda Robin Meier, authorities are bringing a halt to looking for the missing woman near a Miami Gardens canal.

Detectives and dogs have been digging in a small area near Northwest 207th Street and 41st Avenue for the past three days, but have found very little evidence that Meier's body might be buried in the ground.

Hallandale Beach Police said they found "a few things," but did not disclose what those items were.

Authorities had said they planned to mine the area for at least the next week after cadaver dogs appeared to have honed in on something underneath the surface. Investigators thought it might be human remains.

But the dig turned up no body, detectives said Thursday before calling off the search.

Investigators took some soil samples, which will be analyzed. They are not ruling out the possibility that there might have been a body there at some point.

Meier, 40, was last seen leaving her Hallandale Beach condo building on June 4, 2010.

Meier's car, a red Cadillac Escalade, was found a week after her disappearance, abandoned in a parking lot in Opa-Locka.

Two men were later captured on video using Meier's ATM card at two different Miami banks that same day, and police later named those men as persons of interest.
