Car Crashes Into Diners Outside Miami Pizzeria

Several people were injured after a car slammed into them outside a Miami pizzeria Saturday afternoon.

The accident happened at La Pizzeria Di Lemoni at 4600 NE 2nd Avenue. According to Miami Fire Rescue, 71-year-old Belony Alterma lost control of his 2003 Toyota Camry, hitting a pole before running onto the sidewalk and slamming into diners eating outside.

"It was just kind-of like a horror scene," said Sarah Raw, who works next door to the pizzeria. "Everyone was on the floor. There were some kids screaming."

Alterma said he doesn't remember much about what happened in the accident, but he says he is sorry for what transpired.

According to Miami Police, seven people were injured in the accident. Two were rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center as trauma alerts, while other victims were transported to Mount Sinai Hospital and JMH's emergency room. Conditions for those injured in the accident have not been released.

Among the injured were Alterma's wife and niece inside the Camry. Alterma stayed on the scene after the accident.
