1 Dead After Car Crashes Into Train in Hialeah: Cops

The collision happened on Palm Avenue and 21st Street in Hialeah.

A man is dead after his car collided with a train in Hialeah Saturday afternoon, officials said.

The crash happened at Palm Avenue and 21st Street, causing traffic delays in the area, according to Hialeah Police.

"We know that this train was traveling westbound while the vehicle was traveling southbound and they collided somehow," Hialeah Police spokesman Eddie Rodriguez said.

The driver, who police say died on the scene, has not yet been identified. No other injuries were reported.

Witnesses said the street is a dangerous intersection.

"This street is always a little dangerous," Teresa Rodriguez said. "My husband was run over by a car on this street."

While police have not yet determined how the crash happened, one witness described seeing the barriers go down over the railway crossing while the victim's car was stopped over the tracks.

"The train driver started to honk at the man, and the man tried to get out," witness Nora Amador said. "I saw the car flipping."

Officers said they will use surveillance video from a bus that was facing the scene of the crash in their investigation.
