A man and his fiancée were out of the hospital Thursday morning after a car slammed through the front of an Oakland Park pizzeria, hitting them both.
The crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. at the Downtown Pizza Grill, located at 906 Northeast 62nd Street in Oakland Park.
According to Oakland Park Fire Rescue, 70-year-old Dina Nolan lost control of her SUV and crashed into the front of the pizza shop. Witnesses tell NBC 6 that Nolan is a regular customer there.
The car hit Pietro Leone and his fiancée, Felicia Nesibett, as they sat inside the restaurant. Both were taken to North Broward Hospital but have since been released. Leone has cuts all over his body, while Nesibett has staples in her arm and stitches in her face.
"I thought I was going to die," Leone said.
Leone tells NBC 6 that he heard the car coming and saw it make a sharp left turn toward the pizza shop. He took the brunt of the impact and was pinned by the car.
"All I remember, I remember is me being pinned up against the counter; in between the counter and the car and then the people trying to drag me out," he said.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash. It is not known whether Nolan will face any charges.
"I'm just glad everyone is OK. I thought it was going to be really really serious where someone could've gotten killed," Nesibett said.
