Cars Vandalized, Airbags Stolen in SW Miami-Dade Community

Police are looking for the people responsible for vandalizing several cars in southwest Miami-Dade.

It happened at around 5:30 a.m. Saturday at the Westchester Point Condominiums near SW 8th Street and 84th Avenue.

Surveillance video showed the alleged thieves scoping out the parking lot. They apparently targeted 2017 Honda Accords and got away with the airbags.

Resident Pedro Valido said about a year and a half ago, eight cars in the same complex were vandalized -- all of them were Hondas and missing airbags. He said he has dealt with this issue three times already.

"He is retired currently, and every single time, he has to spend this amount of money and that's just not right," said his granddaughter, Lauren Borges.

Valido's already spent $1,800 on deductibles for the first two airbag thefts. This time, he expects to pay about $1,000.

He also plans to add an alarm, but his family is afraid the crimes could escalate.

"It can't only happen to the cars, they could enter your house and they can steal or just do anything in the middle of the night," Borges said.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
