North-Central Florida 1-Year-Old Falls Into Hole, Dies: Deputies

An infant boy has been found dead inside a water-filled backyard hole in Ocala, located in northern central Florida.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office tells local media that 1-year-old Wyatt Steed was discovered Sunday inside the 30-inch-wide by 23-inch-long hole, about an hour after his guardian called to report him missing.

Deputies say they were told that Steed's guardian was a friend of his mother's, and that the guardian had taken Steed for a walk, turning around to find him missing.

Deputies were called to the scene when the boy was discovered in the hole, located on the property of the guardian's apartment complex. It is unclear how deep the hole was.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes detectives are investigating the incident.
