Central Florida Driver Backs Truck Onto Another Vehicle During Confrontation

Police in Ocala responded to a wild scene when a truck backed on top of another car – with the driver saying he did so in self-defense.

Investigators found the Ford F-150 on top of the Toyota Camry at an intersection Wednesday. Witnesses told NBC affiliate WESH-TV that the two vehicles stopped and both drivers exchanged words – later, the driver of the car, 53-year-old Adalberto Aponte, got out and allegedly started punching the teenage driver of the truck.

Ocala Police Sgt. Cynthia Barnes said the wife of the driver tried to threaten Aponte, saying there was a gun in the truck. One witness said Aponte responded by saying “Well, I’ll just shoot you” and started to walk back to his car.

The truck driver then put his vehicle in reverse – saying he was protecting his wife and 11-month-old toddler inside and that Aponte had been “driving recklessly”. Police say he will not be charged, but Aponte was arrested for his role in the altercation – one he denied to officers before bonding out.

No guns were found in either vehicle.
