Child Drowns at Deerfield Beach Pool Party

A 7-year-old boy drowned at a Deerfield Beach pool party Saturday afternoon.

The Broward Sheriff's Office identified the victim as Maliq Singletary.

According to BSO, a friend from church invited Singletary and his aunt over for a pool party and cookout on the 600 block of NW 2nd Terrace.

Adults told the kids to exit the pool and start cleaning up around 6 p.m. Deputies said Singletary and his female cousin came out of the pool, but then jumped back in together. She resurfaced while he did not.

The homeowner jumped in the pool and pulled the child out of the water.

The boy's aunt and other adults performed CPR as someone called 911.

BSO Fire Rescue responded and attempted to resuscitate the boy. Singletary was airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

BSO homicide detectives are investigating.
