10-Year-Old Shot While Riding Bike

Police are investigating a shooting in Liberty City that sent a 10-year-old boy to the hospital.

Investigators were at the scene in the 6300 block of Northwest 17th Court for hours Wednesday night going over every little detail, after the boy was caught in the crossfire next to the Liberty Square Community Center.

Police say three people began shooting near a basketball court, striking the boy in the leg while he was riding his bike.

The victim's mother was upset and emotional, in disbelief that her child is the latest victim of gun violence in Miami.

"They're not telling me nothing.  He ain't nothing but a child," she said.

The boy was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital. There's no word yet on his condition.

Another woman rushed to the scene because her son was on the same street when the shooting happened. Like many other parents, she said she is worried about violence, especially during the summer months.

In March and April, a series of shootings in Miami left four young people dead.

Last year, there were 152 shootings in Miami-Dade County. Only 15 of them have been solved.
