13-Year-Old Struck and Killed by Vehicle While Riding Bicycle in Miami Beach: Police

Miami Beach Police is investigating a car crash, resulting in the death of a 13-year-old child who was riding a bicycle.

"It makes you feel bad," said Kay Maunsbach, a Miami Beach resident.

The driver of a dark silver Dodge Ram truck ended up striking the child, who was sadly killed. The teen's body was covered on the street until the medical examiner arrived.

"It's terrible," said Maunsbach. "I worry a lot about the bicyclists."

Witnesses say the driver was visibly distraught and did remain on the scene. He appears to be cooperating with police.

Police were investigating near the intersection of 50th street and Alton Road. The crash happening just over a bridge near fisher park, a popular spot for children.

Traffic on Alton Road northbound was diverted for several hours but all streets has been re-opened.

Police say the incident appears to be a very unfortunate traffic accident and their investigators do not anticipate any criminal charges toward the driver.

Police officials have not released any additional information at this time.
