Child Who Was in Car Stolen From Gas Station Found Safe: Coral Springs Police

A young child who was inside a car that was stolen from a Coral Springs gas station has been found and reunited with her family, police said.

The incident happened Thursday night at a gas station at 7800 Sample Road, when a driver went inside a convenience store and left the 6-year-old behind in the car, Coral Springs Police said.

A suspect jumped into the black Kia Optima and took off with the child inside. The girl was later dropped off and found by a good Samaritan about three miles away from the gas station, officials said.

Video from the gas station captured the incident and shows the girl's stepfather running after the vehicle as it left the scene.

"He tried to jump onto the trunk of the vehicle. Ultimately he was unsuccessful and the vehicle continued northbound on Woodside Drive," Sgt. Brad McKeone said.

McKeone said the stepfather said the car wasn't running but he left the key fob inside.

Police are still looking for the suspect and the stolen car, which has a tag of CQQV13. Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
