City of Tampa to Drop Juvenile Curfew

After 21 years, Tampa is officially dropping its juvenile curfew.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that unofficially, it hasn't been enforced for 11 years, ever since the Florida Supreme Court said it was unconstitutional and unsupported by good data.

Tampa has a long, on-again, off-again history with curfews for minors.

The first goes back to 1943. The most recent was passed in 1994.

City Council members gave their initial approval to repealing the citywide curfew on Nov. 19. A final council vote is scheduled for Dec. 3.
