Cleanup at Hollywood Condo Complex After Vandals Smash Dozens of Cars' Windows

Burglars smashed in windows in 50-60 cars overnight at the Trafalgar Towers condo complex in Hollywood, residents said.

On Monday auto glass repairmen brushed away fragments of shattered glass left behind by the vandals at the complex at 1400 S. Ocean Drive.

Robert Zanette described the damage to his vandalized car.

"Back window’s broken on the passenger's side. And the driver's side, pinholes in it where I assume they tried to break in,” he said.

Auto glass repair vans drove into the Trafalgar Towers parking lot to help with the damage. But a shattered sense of privacy won't have a quick fix.

"All of a sudden I feel like wow, I’ve been violated sort of. It’s like somebody breaking into your home,” Zanette said.

Ivan Lenglois, who had his iPad and cash stolen, said he was disappointed by what happened.

“[It’s] a surprise, because two or three cars you can understand, but 60 cars, you know, that's a lot of cars,” Lenglois said. “So it's a group, they have to be really well-organized.”

One of the co-op association board members told NBC 6 off-camera that security cameras caught four individuals vandalizing vehicles. The video has been turned over to Hollywood Police, who have released few details about their investigation.

While Lenglois and others lost valuables, Bill Vervitas, whose rental car was vandalized, lost valuable time from his vacation.

“It’s a bit of a headache, having to sit here and wait for the glass company to come and change the glass on the car, when I could be on the beach with my kid,” he said.

As the cleanup from the smash-and-grab continues, Hollywood Police continue to investigate who tried to clean out the residents.
