Severe Thunderstorm Watch Canceled for South Florida

A severe thunderstorm watch issued for South Florida was canceled Thursday evening as a cold front dumped heavy rain and wind throughout the state.

The watch, which included Miami-Dade, Broward, Monroe and Palm Beach Counties, was issued until 9 p.m. but was discontinued just before 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday was warm and windy before a cold front brought the threat of severe weather, including heavy rainfall, strong winds, localized flooding and isolated tornadoes.

The squall line of thunderstorms was ahead of schedule and moved through South Florida starting at around 6 p.m. It is expected to move offshore into the night, leaving windy and cloudy weather for Friday.

A wind advisory was issued for Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe and Palm Beach counties Friday from 7 a.m. until 1 a.m. Saturday, with winds up to 35 mph. Temperatures are expected to be in the 70s.

Expect dry, sunny and comfortable conditions from Saturday into Christmas.
