Police say a 46-year-old plumber is recovering after a coral snake bit him.
According to DeLand police Sgt. Chris Estes, Troy Johns was working at a job site in Orange City on Tuesday when the snake bit him on the right index finger.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports Johns drove to DeLand and started feeling dizzy. He pulled into a parking lot and called 911. Johns was taken to Florida Hospital DeLand.
The foot-long snake was captured and taken to the Reptile Discovery Center. Owner Carl Barden says if the snake is big enough it will be added to the center's venom line to help produce venom for future anti-venom.
If the snake isn't big enough, Barden says it will be released into the wild.
