The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved the allocation of $1.5 million to the City of Homestead for the Downtown Homestead Revitalization Project.
The allocation would fund eligible infrastructure projects aimed at spurring economic development in the city, according to county officials.
"Homestead is on the move. This Economic Development grant will help build the infrastructure needed to support the city's plans for a vibrant downtown district with great civic and cultural amenities, businesses, and enhanced connectivity through Transit Oriented Development strategies," explained Commissioner Levine Cava.
"We have been working tirelessly towards the vision of a revitalized Downtown Homestead that will generate economic development in the area and its surroundings," said Homestead Mayor Jeff Porter. "The support of the county will help Homestead accomplish projects that will offer South Dade residents the transportation access, economic opportunities and quality of life they deserve."
The Downtown Homestead project includes the newly completed city hall and Seminole Theatre, a new police station that is currently under construction, and an observation tower, a movie theater, restaurants, retail center and parking garage currently in the planning stages.
