Fatal Crash Shuts Down I-95 in Oakland Park for Part of Wednesday Evening

A fatal crash shut down Interstate 95 northbound in Oakland Park for hours on Wednesday.

The crash happened just before 6 p.m. near Exit 32 at Commercial Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. 

A Honda Accord hit a Pontiac Solstice from behind, causing the Pontiac to spin out and the Honda to collide into a concrete barrier wall. 

The 18-year-old driver of the Honda died. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin. Two passengers in the Honda were seriously injured. The driver of the second vehicle was not injured.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The northbound lanes of I-95 were reopened after 11 p.m. Two right lanes will be closed for several hours for construction, FHP said.
