Crews Evacuate Patients From Fort Lauderdale Hospital After Power Issue

Crews evacuated patients from a Fort Lauderdale hospital after reports of a power outage that was affecting the building's air conditioning Friday afternoon.

A total of seven patients were evacuated after the outage at Kindred Hospital on East Las Olas Boulevard. Footage showed rescue workers putting the patients into the back of ambulances.

Kindred Healthcare officials said the intensive care patients were evacuated out of an abundance of caution. They were taken to Broward General Medical Center.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue officials said the issue was fixed and the air conditioning was working a short time later.

At the time of the evacuation, the building was without backup emergency power, officials said.

The building was later placed on emergency power until normal power was restored.

No other information was immediately known.
