Crews Look for Boater Who Dove Into Tampa Bay to Free Anchor

A search is continuing for a man who never resurfaced after diving into Tampa Bay to free an anchor that had become stuck.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's spokesman Larry McKinnon said divers and other crews resumed the search for the man Wednesday morning.

McKinnon says the man and a woman were on the boat that launched just before noon Tuesday from a MacDill Air Force Base boat ramp. They were about two miles west of Little Harbor in Ruskin when the anchor got stuck.

When the man didn't resurface, the woman called 911. The U.S. Coast Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission joined the sheriff's office in searching for the man until dark.

The man and woman have not yet been identified.

No further details were immediately available.
