Criminal Operation Uncovered in Miami Lakes Neighborhood: MDPD

There was a large police presence in a Miami Lakes neighborhood Thursday night, after a criminal operation was uncovered.

The incident unfolded at a home in the 7200 block of Lochness Drive, just off the Palmetto and Northwest 67th Avenue.

Miami-Dade Police confirmed they have arrested and charged one suspect, 50-year-old Lazaro Chaleton. According to his arrest report, as part of an ongoing fuel theft investigation, detectives found 11 counterfeit gift cards in his wallet.

The report also states his car had a concealed illegal fuel tank with all the necessary hoses, meters, nozzles and electric pumps.

Police said three additional people were detained for questioning. At this time, they are not facing charges.

Detectives said at the same home, they found a grow house, a fraudulent credit card manufacturing operation and two cars used to steal gas.

According to the arrest form, Chaleton admitted to his knowledge and role in the fraudulent scheme.

The investigation remains ongoing.
