Cruise Ship Has Engine Problems in Key West

Cruise line spokeswoman Cynthia Martinez says the Celebrity Constellation had technical issues with one of its gas turbine engines during its departure from Key West.

A cruise ship had to spend an extra day in Key West after experiencing engine problems.

Cruise line spokeswoman Cynthia Martinez says the Celebrity Constellation had technical issues with one of its gas turbine engines during its departure from Key West on Sunday afternoon.

Martinez tells The Key West Citizen that the ship's departure was delayed until 10 p.m. Monday while crews made repairs. The ship carries more than 2,160 passengers.

Because of the delay, the Constellation will skip a stop scheduled Tuesday in Cozumel, Mexico. Instead, the ship will stop Wednesday in Nassau, the Bahamas.

Key West spokeswoman Alyson Crean says the city charged the cruise line for a second day because it was docked longer than scheduled.
