Davie Firefighters Honored by PETA for Saving Stuck Puppy in Drain Pipe

Davie Fire Rescue Department is receiving an award from PETA for saving a 2-month-old puppy from a drain pipe.

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals honored the Davie Fire Rescue Department with an award for saving a puppy from a drain pipe on Monday.

The fire department is receiving the “Compassionate Fire Department Award” from PETA after they spent hours rescuing a 2-month-old Pomeranian puppy named "Sugar,"  that was trapped for several hours underground.

During the rescue, firefighters were armed with a camera designed to explore the sewer pipes and a special animal oxygen mask for the puppy.

"Davie is very fortunate to have first responders who are ready to protect and serve both residents and their beloved animal companions," said PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman.

Davie Fire Rescue Department will receive a framed certificate, letter of appreciation and a box of vegan chocolates.

PETA urges dog owners to make sure their yards are secure with proper fencing, no poisonous plants or open manholes and pipes.
