A Lantana pet shop owner who allegedly had five dead cats and a dog in her freezer was charged with animal cruelty.
Debora Van Oort, 52, was ordered held on $3,000 bond Tuesday morning, a day after her apartment and unlicensed pet shop were raided by Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control, according to the Palm Beach Post.
In addition to the dead animals in the freezer, authorities found 26 cats, dogs, a rabbit, a bird and a hedgehog living in deplorable conditions.
Malnourished cats and dehydrated dogs were allegedly found caged and caked in feces.
Authorities say the search was conducted after two golden retriever puppies were found dead inside Van Oort's Forever Puppies pet shop Friday. The dogs were found to have no food in their systems.
