The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash involving a motor scooter rider on Interstate 95 in Hollywood Friday.
A man riding on the motor scooter in the northbound lanes of I-95 near Stirling Road was struck from behind by a car, and then run over by two vehicles just before 3 a.m., according to FHP officials. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
"It's a very gruesome scene," FHP Sgt. Mark Wysocky said. "The driver of the motor scooter was then ejected into the roadway and he was struck by the tractor and then another vehicle."
The victim was later identified as 47-year-old Willie Hill of Fort Lauderdale. Officials said one vehicle left the scene before realizing what happened then returned.
FHP officials said at this point it appears to have been an accident. No one else was injured.
Officers shut down I-95 northbound at Stirling Road following the deadly incident at around 3 a.m. The I-95 northbound lanes were reopened around 10:30 a.m.
Troopers investigating say the scene spanned the length of a football field.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
