Demonstrators Protest Police Killings in Fort Lauderdale

Demonstrators blocked roads in downtown Fort Lauderdale in what's being called a "die-in" protest against police killings.

Protests across the country are being organized in response to two controversial grand jury decisions, the most recent involving the chokehold death of a black man by a police officer.

While there were not nearly as many protesters as Friday night's demonstration in Miami, the message remained the same: condemning controversial police killings of what they say were innocent victims.

"I feel there's an injustice for people of color, and this is not a fallacy," said the protest organizer. "It's not something we're making up. There's too many people with the same stories."

About 50 protesters gathered on the corner of NW 7th Avenue and 6th Street to plead for justice in the Eric Garner case. Garner, a black New York City resident, died in July after an altercation with police that saw officer Daniel Pantaleo apply a choke hold during the arrest, as Garner repeatedly said he couldn't breathe.

With police not far behind, protesters marched several blocks to the Federal Courthouse in Fort Lauderdale.
