An man armed with a knife was taken into custody in Deerfield Beach after he ran into an elderly couple's apartment on Wednesday
An officer saw William Cass, 36, driving a car and circling several clocks in an area that had a spike in burglaries. He stopped the man for running a red light, the compalint affdavit said.
The man then took off with the car and drive into a community, the report said. He got out of the car and fled on foot, and when a detective tried to take him into custody, he picked up a clay pot and threw it at the detective, cutting the detective.
He ran into the couple's home, and they managed to flee. They told authorities he was armed with a knife. A K-9 unit apprehended him, and he became very violent as he was taken into custody. He hit the K-9 and the handler, the report said. He picked up something and slammed it down on the handler's foot several times, breaking a bone in the man's foot.
Cass faces charges including aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and battery on a police dog.
