Suspected Bank Robber Killed in Deputy-Involved Shooting in Pompano Beach: BSO

A suspected bank robber was killed in a deputy-involved shooting in Pompano Beach Thursday, officials said.

The shooting occurred at Northeast 13th Terrace and Sample Road. According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, the suspect was being sought in connection with a bank robbery in Port St. Lucie.

When deputies went to arrest the man, shots were fired. The man died as a result of his injuries.

"He reached under the floorboard of the vehicle. He produced a handgun and four deputies fired simultaneously," Broward Sheriff Scott Israel said. "Tragically the suspect succumbed to his wounds within the vehicle."

The suspect was later identified as 40-year-old Charles Allen Ziegler.

Witnesses reported hearing several shots.

"I thought it was fire crackers, I didn't even come out and look for a few minutes," witness Bob Casper said.
