Deputy's Car Flips in Keys Crash; No Major Injuries Reported

Authorities say no major injuries were reported after a deputy's patrol vehicle collided with another car and overturned on the narrow highway linking the Florida Keys with the U.S. mainland.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said in an email that the crash occurred early Saturday as Deputy Daniel Hill was returning to his post in Marathon after transferring a prisoner to the Stock Island Detention Center.

Herrin said Hill saw an oncoming vehicle pull into his lane on U.S. 1, but he didn't have time to avoid a collision.

Herrin said authorities arrived at the scene to find Hill's empty vehicle upside down on the highway. She said Hill wasn't injured and he left his vehicle to assist people in two other vehicles involved in the crash.
