Miami Man Arrested in 1990 Cold Case Rapes

A Miami man was arrested in connection with the sexual assaults of two women at their apartment complexes back in 1990, police say.

Joseph Cody Davis, 57, of Miami, was arrested and charged Thursday in connection with the incidents in April and May of 1990, when he was 29 years old, according to an arrest form.

On April 4, 1990, Davis allegedly grabbed the 23-year-old victim by her hair and pointed a gun at her neck near the stairway of her apartment, according to police. He forced her back into her apartment, raped her and then left with jewelry and cash.

A month later, Davis allegedly pointed a handgun at a 19-year-old woman's head at the same apartment complex. He forced her into a nearby meter room, assaulted her and then left with her jewelry, according to the report.

Both victims were taken to nearby hospitals, where they were examined and authorities gathered biological evidence.

Twenty-eight years later, Miami-Dade police entered the evidence into CODIS, a national DNA database maintained by the FBI. The DNA was matched to the suspect. Davis was located and arrested two days later.

Davis is charged with two counts of sexual battery with a deadly weapon, and remains in Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on no bond.
