Dog CPR? Some Miami Lifeguards Now Trained to Save Canines

Lifeguards at Haulover Park in Miami-Dade County are now trained to save dogs.

The idea came after a dog drowned at Haulover Park last year.

The Miami Herald reports Miami-Dade Fire Ocean Rescue personnel rescued the dog that day, but it went into cardiac arrest and died.

Capt. Luiz Morizot said in a news release that the lifeguards had never received proper training on dog CPR.

So lifeguards recently went through a day-long American Red Cross class that taught them proper muzzling and rescue restraint techniques to protect the animal and the rescuers. Training also included mouth-to-nose breathing techniques and CPR.
