Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said bystanders witnessed Lily swimming for at least 20 minutes in the canal near Southwest 144th Street and 157th Avenue last Monday.

When crews arrived, Lily was in distress and exhausted. The dog was taken to Miami-Dade Animal Services, where they discovered she had a microchip. The company had been contacted to try and identify the owner.

It is not immediately known whether Lily's owners were located.

The rescue organization thanked the staff of Diaz Heart Animal Hospital and everyone who assisted in her rescue.
