Police are investigating after a dog's body was discovered in a burning box on the side of a road in northwest Miami-Dade Tuesday morning.
A passerby found the burning box in the area of Northwest 95th Street and 25th Avenue in West Little River around 7 a.m., and when officers arrived they found a dog's body inside, Miami-Dade Police said.
An officer put out the fire with an extinguisher. Miami-Dade Animal Services also responded to the scene.
The dog was believed to be a terrier breed, officials said. One witness said it looked like a pitbull.
"A real heavy-duty pitbull, and he was just in flames, I've never seen anything like it," said the witness, who didn't want to be identified.
Police said they're investigating the incident. No other information was immediately known.
