Dolphins: Pouncey and Matthews Injury Updates

Mike Pouncey has a minor foot injury while Rishard Matthews reportedly suffered fractured ribs

The Miami Dolphins received injury updates on Monday for Mike Pouncey and Rishard Matthews who were both injured in Sunday's game.

Pouncey was carted off the field in the first quarter of Sunday's loss to the New York Jets. At the time, the injury appeared serious and possibly season-ending. As of now, Pouncey's status is considered day-to-day which puts his playing status for the next game in some doubt.

Without another true center on the depth chart, Miami turned to Jamil Douglas on Sunday. The guard has very little experience at the center position but did was involved in 64 plays due to necessity in the loss. More should be known on Pouncey's status as the week progresses and Miami could turn to Douglas again if the Pro Bowler can't go.

Matthews who left Sunday's action early due to chest and rib injuries will not play in the next game. Matthews was the victim of an errant throw by Tannehill which sent him into harm's way. The wide receiver took a hard hit and appeared to have some difficulty catching his breath following the contact. Matthews suffered multiple fractured ribs from the hit, according to NFL.com.

Without Matthews for the foreseeable future, it is likely that DeVante Parker will see an increase in his workload. The first-round pick came away with a touchdown on Sunday and will likely be one of Tannehill's main targets going forward.

The Dolphins sit at 4-7 this season and have endured sweeps at the hands of the Buffalo Bills and Jets. As its dismal 0-5 record in the division shows, Miami has had trouble all season long against its main rivals.

Miami will look to get back into the win column on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens at Sun Life Stadium.
