Miami Dolphins Release First Depth Chart of Preseason

The Dolphins released their first depth chart for the 2018 preseason on Sunday

The Miami Dolphins unveiled their first depth chart of the preseason on Sunday.

While most of the chart was predictable, there is some intrigue at the running back spot. Miami has let it be known that the starting job is up for grabs between Kenyan Drake and Frank Gore. Rather than list one of the players as the starter, the team has listed both.

Drake had been widely expected to start the year as Miami's primary running back and that still may end up the case. Gore who joined the Dolphins in the off-season will apparently have a chance to take the job however in the preseason. The 35-year old comes with plenty of experience and could give Drake some tough competition.

Drake ended his 2017 season in solid fashion, with 644 yards in the last four games combined. Drake's strong performance on the ground came following a tough year for the Dolphins overall in that department. Miami was 29th in the NFL in rushing yards and was tied for last in the league in rushing touchdowns.

Gore has been a starting running back at the beginning of the last 12 NFL seasons. Head coach Adam Gase let it be known that age is not considered an issue with Gore. Even if Drake ultimately ends up with the starting job, Gore could still see plenty of snaps as Miami's second-string running back.

Miami does not have a backup quarterback selected as of yet, as Brock Osweiler and David Fales will compete for the role in the preseason. With Ryan Tannehill's recent injury history, the backup QB spot is an important one for the Dolphins. Osweiler and Fales should see plenty of action in the upcoming preseason games.

There is a battle at defensive tackle as well, with Jordan Phillips and Davon Godchaux both listed in the primary position. Both players saw action in Miami last season and had some positive moments. With no clear winner at this time, this could be another heated competition during the exhibition part of the schedule.

Mike Gesicki has drawn some praise for his work in the past week, but he is listed as fifth on the depth chart at the tight end position. Gesicki is a player to watch early on, as he could see his name move up in the rankings. The rookie has opened eyes early on and the coaching staff will likely want to see what he can do in game-action.

Jason Sanders is listed as Miami's starting kicker, following his selection in this year's NFL draft. Sanders is ahead of Greg Joseph on the initial depth chart.

Miami's preseason will begin on Thursday with a home game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
