Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing Near Miami-Dade Police HQ

Two men were inside the plane and one suffered minor injuries, police said

Police are investigating after a small plane carrying a pilot and a passenger made an emergency crash landing on a road in Doral Sunday evening.

According to the Doral Police Department, the twin-engine PA-76 plane may have suffered engine failure before making an emergency landing on Northwest 25th Street and 90th Avenue, near Miami-Dade Police headquarters.

Miami-Dade Aviation Department officials said the plane was headed to Miami Executive Airport from Hilton Head, South Carolina, and tried to land at Miami International Airport, but didn't make it.

Investigators said the small plane was being operated by Global Pilot School. A person at the school said they couldn't comment on the incident.

Police said the aircraft came into contact with a tree and Amazon Prime truck. Crews working nearby say they heard what sounded like an explosion when the plane went down just before 10 p.m.

Two men were reported to be inside the plane at the time of the crash landing. Officials say one was treated for minor injuries, but both were in good condition as of Monday morning.

Rey Valdez, spokesperson for the City of Doral Police Department, said had it happened at any other time of the day, the incident could have been much more tragic.

"The difference between eight hours is incredible. We'd be looking at a totally different incident," Valdez said.

The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the incident.
