A 31-year-old mother and her 5-year-old daughter are dead after being found unresponsive in a Coral Springs pool Sunday afternoon, police said.
The incident happened at the pool located inside the Sherwood Square Apartment complex where the mother and child are residents.
A man found the woman and girl laying face down, unresponsive in the pool. He didn't have a cell phone on him and asked someone in the parking lot to call 911.
Police said the men pulled them out of the water and initiated CPR with help from dispatchers on the phone. Fire rescue arrived and transported the victims to Broward Health Coral Springs.
"That's information that we have to figure out as to how they ended up at the pool, in the pool, and how long they were there before they were discovered," said Coral Springs Police Sgt. Carla Kmiotek.
Police say no one else in the complex was in the pool at the time they were discovered.
"It's very sad because I don't know...if the child is friends with my daughter because all the kids here frequent school here," said Eliane Rodrigues, neighbor.
Police haven't released the victims' names. The incident remains under investigation.
