Car Plummets Nine Stories in Garage Before Bursting Into Flames in Downtown Miami

Heavy smoke billowed from a parking garage as crews worked to extinguish a car fire Tuesday in downtown Miami.

The fire started in a parking garage that utilizes vehicle elevators to take cars up to parking spaces in the 100 block of Biscayne Boulevard, according to Miami Fire Rescue.

For unknown reasons, an unoccupied vehicle broke through a safety gate, fell nine floors down to the bottom elevator shaft and burst into flames, fire officials said.

There were no reported injuries. Neighboring businesses were not affected.

Footage showed heavy smoke billowing from the high-rise building.
