A deadly drive-by shooting early Sunday morning left one person dead in Southwest Miami-Dade.
“You just heard a rapid pow, pow, pow, pow, pow,” said one local resident.
Miami-Dade Police confirmed gunshots killed a Hispanic male in his 20’s, who was driving a Chevrolet Silverado at around 3 a.m. Sunday morning. A passenger in that truck was not hit by bullets, but was injured when the driver - later identified as 19-year-old Emilio Jose Perez - got shot and lost control of the car, which hit other vehicles parked outside homes in the normally quiet neighborhood.
“I’m surprised. I thought they were fixing the street again,” said one local resident, “Normally we don’t have crime here.”
The shooting happened steps away from Shenandoah Middle School around Southwest 19th Street and 19th Avenue. Police say Perez was shot in the head area by at least one suspect in a dark colored vehicle that was not on scene when officers arrived.
Neighbors are dealing with the aftermath, including one resident who said the Silverado crash pushed her sister’s car a little more than 100 feet away from where it was parked in front of their home.
Another resident said a Kia belonging to her husband took the initial impact and it resulted in the car’s total loss.
