The driver of a vehicle who crashed into a Lauderhill canal, killing three passengers inside, was arrested Thursday on charges that include DUI and vehicular homicide.
DeShawn Prince, 24, was taken into custody after tests came back showing he was legally intoxicated at the time of the crash, authorities said.
The crash occurred January 9th at the intersection of Northwest 44th Street and Inverrary Boulevard.
Prince was able to swim to safety while the other three people inside the car were trapped. Police and fire rescue told NBC 6 at the time that he was helpful with their questions.
Dive teams were able to get to the three passengers, but all three passed away at area hospitals. Prince was also taken to a hospital after the accident, where he was treated and released.
22-year-old Shaquille Barrows and 25-year-old Nathaniel Morgan were among the victims, as was 14-year-old Tyrese Legrand, who was the brother of Barrows.

In court Friday, the family of the brothers asked for a judge to keep Prince behind bars.
"He has no remorse and he doesn't care what happens to nobody," said Donna Legrand. "He should not be out in society and he should definitely not be driving."
He faces a total of 11 charges for the accident and had his bond set at over $500,000.
