Driver Arrested in Hit-And-Run Crash: Miami-Dade Police

A man who was wanted for questioning in a hit-and-run crash that left a man critically injured in northwest Miami-Dade has been arrested, police said Friday.

Silvestre Rene Diaz, 28, was arrested at his home late Thursday night and faces charges including leaving the scene of a crash involving bodily injury, Miami-Dade Police said.

Diaz was being held on $9,000 bond Friday, jail records showed. It was unknown if he's hired an attorney.

According to police, 33-year-old Michael Rodriguez was driving his silver Hyundai in Brownsville in the area of Northwest 27th Avenue and Northwest 50th Street when he collided with a Ford Fusion.

The driver of the Fusion, Diaz, and a passenger fled the scene on foot without attempting to give aid to Rodriguez, who remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition, police said.

According to an arrest report, Diaz admitted to smoking marijuana before the crash and admitted to driving with a suspended license.
