Driver Arrested After Crashing SUV Into Tamarac Home: Police

A family of five is shocked but safe after an SUV plowed into their living room at an apartment complex in Tamarac late Wednesday night.

The driver, 41-year-old Yraida Ramirez, is facing multiple charges including DUI and failure to use due care, police said.

Ramirez is also a resident of the apartment complex, located near Northwest 47th Trail off Commercial Boulevard, the family says.

The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night. The family was sound asleep when they heard a loud slam as the driver plowed into their living room.

"I don't know what to think, like what was happening," said Colin Mills of the crash. He was inside the home with four relatives when the crash happened.

Mills says the woman appeared to have an injury to her right foot and was driving with her left. He says the woman kept saying that she would fix the damage.

The family normally sits out in the living room, making Mills even more thankful no one was injured.

"Anybody could be out here- sitting [on the] couch, watching TV," he says. "Who knows what happens?"

Ramirez was booked into the Broward jail early Thursday. It's unknown if she's hired an attorney.

Mills' apartment is boarded up, but the building was not structurally damaged so he and other residents will be permitted to stay.
