Broward Sheriff’s Office investigators are looking into a deadly incident involving a car and a Brightline / Virgin train Sunday morning.
NBC affiliate WPTV reports the incident took place just before noon at the intersection of Northeast 33rd Street and Dixie Highway when the train collided with a car attempting to cross before impact.
"He anticipated the train was gone, so he proceeded on and unfortunately another train was headed in the other direction," said Jim Mooney, who witnessed the crash.
The driver of the vehicle, who was not identified, was killed in the crash. No other fatalities or injuries were reported.
Less than one week ago, a bicyclist was killed in a similar incident with a Brightline train near the same intersection.
