Driver in Deadly 2012 Bus Crash at MIA Accepts Plea Deal

The driver of a bus involved in a deadly crash at Miami International Airport in December 2012 will not be allowed to drive again for at least a decade and will spend the next two years on house arrest as part of a plea deal agreed to Wednesday.

Ramon Ferreiro, 48, was driving a chartered bus with 32 members of a Jehovah’s Witness congregation when the bus slammed into an overpass at the airport. The crash’s impact tore part of the roof of the bus off and killed three people on board the bus.

According to the Miami Herald, Ferreiro did not test positive for drugs or alcohol and had a clean driving record at the time of the crash. He was driving the group to West Palm Beach for a Jehovah’s Witness meeting when the crash happened.

In addition to the revoked driver’s license and house arrest, the Herald reported that Ferreiro will serve eight years of probation and complete 300 hours of community service. His license was revoked, but he will be able to apply for a license to drive to work once his probation is completed, according to the Herald.
