Driver in Fatal Hollywood Crash Had Blood-Alcohol Level Over 3 Times Legal Limit: Cops

A Hollywood man accused of causing a Mother's Day crash that killed another driver had a blood alcohol level that was more than three times the legal limit, authorities said.

Wilmer Omar Membreno Cruz, 34, was arrested on multiple DUI charges in the Sunday morning crash in that happened near the intersection of 64th Avenue and Taft Street, Hollywood Police officials said.

According to police, Cruz was driving a Toyota Tacoma when he crashed into a Scion around 11:20 a.m. The Scion then crashed into a Mazda pickup truck, while the Tacoma continued to a gas station parking lot where it hit another vehicle, police said.

When officers arrived the driver of the Scion was dead at the scene, officials said. The victim's identity wasn't released.

Police said Cruz had a blood alcohol level of .285, more than three times Florida's legal limit of .08. He also didn't have a valid driver's license, police said.

Cruz was being held without bond Tuesday, Broward jail records showed. Attorney information wasn't available.
