Driver Shot and Killed on I-95 in Boynton Beach: Police

Police are investigating after a driver was killed in a shooting on Interstate 95 in Boynton Beach Wednesday.

The incident began when Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to a crash on I-95 just north of Lantana Road around 11:25 a.m. Around the same time, Boynton Beach Police responded to a crash on I-95 at Gateway Boulevard. Both accidents were connected to the same incident, officials said.

When officers arrived they found the driver of a white SUV had been shot. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition but later died from his injuries.

The victim's name wasn't released.

A woman who was in the car during the shooting said she's "traumatized."

"It was like firecrackers, we didn't know they were shooting until the bullet actually hit the car. The first couple of bullets missed the car," said the woman, who didn't want to be identified.

The woman said moments earlier the shooter bumped into her car near the entrance ramp.

Detectives said they are looking for a gray small SUV. They said witnesses described a passenger in the vehicle was the shooter. He is described as a dark skinned black male with short or pulled back hair and thin build.

The motive for the shooting was unknown.
